God's Call

In 2000, Leon and Verwray Scott took what they thought would be their only trip to Africa. However, they soon realized that God had a different plan. They returned to Kenya in 2003 to spend several weeks working with impoverished youth in the rural village of Keumbu. During these trips, they observed how even a modest level of support often had a life-changing impact.

After returning home, they continued to raise support for projects in Keumbu. At the same time, God was leading them to help address the spiritual roots of the circumstances they had seen. The way forward became clear when they met Pastor Zedekiah Manwa.

Zedekiah is the founder of the Uthiru Foursquare Church near Nairobi who came to Atlanta's Beulah Heights University to obtain his degree. (Zedekiah returned to Kenya in 2007 to start Tassia Church.) The three had a common vision and established Utengo Ministries to provide oversight.

It was determined that Utengo would help equip churches with Bibles and other ministry tools, and provide aid to youth in high poverty situations. As a result, Utengo has funded water tanks, classrooms, and other vital facility projects at schools and given vital aid to orphans. We have also provided hundreds of Bibles, Bible training,and ministry materials to resource-constrained churches.
