Orphans

Kenya is home to an estimated 1.5 million orphans, over 40% due to HIV/AIDS. At times, Utengo is asked to provide critically needed help to orphans who are associated with supported ministries and schools. For example, paying $70 for required uniforms and books can help keep a child in school for another year. And a gift of $25 supplies enough food for a child to eat for an entire month. Please consider a gift to help these precious children.
Water Tanks

Heavy rain does not guarantee easy access to water. And so it is in hilly Gusii, Kenya. Residents sometimes walk up to 3 miles to fill water containers. The 30,000 gallon water tank (in background of picture at left) funded by Utengo at Boruma Secondary School has transformed the lives of the students and surrounding residents. Headmaster William Ombati reports that students are healthier and have more time for school work now that they have ready access to clean water. It has also made cooking and cleaning far easier. Water transport is an especially heavy burden for the elderly and they are among the local residents who are also benefiting from the project.
After Boruma, Utengo completed two 57,000 gallon tanks at high poverty schools in this region. There is still a need for tanks at other schools in the community. Be sure to let us know if you can help.
