In 2000, Leon and Verwray Scott took a long-planned trip to Africa. Despite their vacation mindset, they were soon drawn to the difficult circumstances confronting many of the continent's residents. The two returned to Kenya in 2003 to work with schools and students in Keumbu, Kenya. Here, they saw how a modest level of support often had a life-changing impact.
Subsequently, they met Pastor Zedekiah Manwa who shared their vision. Zedekiah, founded the Uthiru Church in Nairobi and was attending Atlanta's Beulah University. The three established Utengo and began to raise support for targeted projects at underfunded, youth-serving schools and churches. Occasional visits to Kenya include project review and selection, as well as Bible distribution and training.
After completing school, Zedekiah returned to Kenya to establish a new ministry which he continues to lead and he remains active in Utengo. We are grateful for what God has done through him and the many others who make this work possible. .
